Elsbeth Hasler
Noted events in her life were: • birth, Abt 1645, Lagnau, Switzerland. 618 I was born in Langnau, Switzerland. My maiden name of “Hasler” is a variation of the English village named Hazel, derived from Old English hśsel = hazel, which was the name of the man who lived near the hazel tree or grove. The name can be found spelled as Hazell, Hasel, Haisell, Hessel, Heazel, Haseler, Haselar, and Heasler. The Swedish version of the name is Hassel, Hessel. Hasling, Hazlett are collective forms found in England. The ornamental compound names used in Sweden with Hassel as a first element include Hasselberg (hazel hill), Hasselgren, Hesselgren (hazel branch), Hesselblad and Hasselblad (hazel leaf). • Religion: Mennonite. The Hasler's have been involved in the Anabaptists church for a very long time. In 1527, three ministers named Sattler, Denck and Haetzler had gone from Worms to preach the Anabaptist doctrine. Haetzler later met up with fellow ministers Kautz, Jacob Gross, Jacob Dascher and Sigmund Salminger and together they traveled to Augsburg, Nuremburg and along the Rhine River preaching everywhere they went. Bishop Haetzler could speak in several languages and was well learned in the Scriptures. The authorities overtook Haetzler while he was preaching. • Soap Making. During my lifetime we learned the technique of making soap.. • Meals. What We Would Eat: Elsbeth married Ulrich Burgy, son of Uli Burgy and Barbara Roos, about 1667.615 (Ulrich Burgy was born on 23 Feb 1645 in Langnau Im Emmental, Canton Of Berne, Switzerland 616,617 and died a fter1705.) |
