Noted events in his life were: • Surname History. The Van Doorn family has existed under this precise name, with this spelling in the Netherladns for at least eight hundred and fifty years. Upon their arrival in New Amsterdam they eventually dropped the van. The Van Door's were of the noble class in the Netherlands. The surname is derived from the little village of Doorn about eleven miles southeast of Utrecht. • Immigration, 1661. I immigrated to the Dutch colonies in 1661 where I served the other colonist as their tailor. • Fined, 1663. I was fined 12 ½ guilders for having a quarrel that came to blows. • Sued, 1664. Aert Martensen Doorn sued Cornelis Barentsen Slecht for fifty guilders, "his share of the salary of the former reader, Andries van der Sluys." Aert married Geertruy Andriessen, daughter of * Andries Luycaszen Andriessen and Jannetje Sebyns, on 18 Dec 1661 in Kingston, New Amsterdam. (Geertruy Andriessen was born in 1619 in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands and died before 1682.) Noted events in their marriage were: • Moved.
