Captain Arie Roosa
Another name for Arie was Albert. Noted events in his life were: • Immigration, 15 Apr 1660. I immigrated to New Amsterdam with my parents and siblings in 1660. • Militia, 1670. In 1670 Arie was a private in the Marbletown Company commanded by Captain Henry Pawling. • Owned, 1686. In 1686 Arie entered into a joint patent with Jan Eltinge, Gerrit Aartsen, Hendrik Kip and Jacob Kip of fifteen hundred acres of land along the Hudson River opposite the Rondout Creek. • Militia, 1700. 378,379 In 1700 Arie was a Captain of a company of “Foot” in the Ulster Militia commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Rutsen. • Biography. 379,380 Captain Arie Roosa, born in Harwynen, Gelderland, Holland. He came with his parents and siblings on the ship Spotted Cow. Married in Kingston Maria Pels, daughter of Schepen Evert Pels and Jannetje Symens. In 1670 he was a private in the Marbletown Comapny commanded by Captain Henry Pawling, in which his father was Sergeant. In 1700 he was commissioned Captain in the Ulster and Dutchess Counties Regiment, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Rutsen. He was a patentee along with Jan Eltinge, Gerrit Aartsen, Hendrik Kip and Jacob Kip in 1686 of 1500 acres that came to be known as the Arie Roosa Patent. This land was located in Dutchess County. This land was located opposite Rondout Creek, near Kingston and extending along the bank of the Hudson River. Roosa settled on this land and lived there the remainder of his life. He was a captain of Company of Foot soldiers from Ulster County militia in 1700. Arie married Maria Evert Pels. |
