Clithro Barkey, age 69 years, died early Thursday morning, August 12, at a Denver hospital following an illness of six days. Mr. Barkey, who was confined to the hospital four days, had been a resident of the Haxtun community for 30 years.
Mr. Barkey was born December 22, 1878 at Cortland, Nebraska and was the son of Zeigler and Hattie Fox Barkey. He lived in Cortland until 1917, at which time he moved to Phillips County, Colorado. On September 18, 1901, Mr. Barkey married Ruby E. Hayward at Lincoln, Nebraska.
Mr. Barkey was a member of the Church of God of Cortland, Nebraska.
Surviving Mr. Barkey are his wife, Ruby Barkey, and two brothers Dr. V.S. Barkey of Lincoln, Nebraska and Rev. E.E. Barkey of Rockford, Illinois.
Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Radford Funeral home of Haxtun. Services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, August 16, at the Brethern church of Haxtun, with Rev. Leonard Birkin in charge. Burial was at the Holyoke cemetery.
Clithro married Ruby Hayward on 18 Sep 1901. (Ruby Hayward was born on 27 Jun 1882 and died on 18 Aug 1963 in Holyoke, Phillips County, Colorado.)
