Noted events in his life were: • Family Death, 1666. My father died a year after my birth. I lived with my mother until her second marriage to Jans Hendrickse Van Ball, when I went to live with my uncles, Pieter and Jonas Bogardus. We lived in a house that adjoined my grandmother Anneke's home • Moved, Bef 1691. I moved to Kingston, New York with my Uncle Pieter Bogardus where I made the Acquaintance of a young woman named Rachel DeWitt. • Property. I was the owner of a vessel which I employed in carrying trade along the Hudson River from New York to Albany. • Moved, 1700. My family and I returned to Albany and remained there for a few years. I was a freeman of the city of Albany and became prominent in its affairs. • Raid, 1704. I accompanied Captain Nicholas Evertsen on a raid in the colonial service against a band of French privateers off the coast. Cornelius married Rachel De Witt, daughter of Tjerck Claasen Nichols Dewitt and * Barbara Andriessen, in 1691. (Rachel De Witt was born in 1672 in Kingston, New Amsterdam and died on 7 Jan 1746.) |
