• Notes of Interest. Leopold Schneider was beheaded at Augsburg for his faith in 1528.

1. In a list of Mennonites put to death in Canton Berne, we find the following name: “1529, Ulrich Schneider of Luetzelflues.”

2. In 1530, in the town of Bulach was listed an Anabaptists named Appollonie Schnider.

3. In 1693, there was a mandate stating that Anabaptists would be hunted down. Anabaptists during this time met to worship on Saturday night and often due to mandates had to wait until Sunday night to return to their homes under the cover of darkness. Christian Schneider was returning home following a worship service in Thun, when authorities apprehended him.


4. Hans Schneider from Trub was taken prisoner in 1711. He was held prisoner on what was known as an island. Those held prisoner on the island were Hans Schneider, Uli Bear, Joseph Brobst, Claus Baumgartner, Christian Gaumann, Christian Gaumann the younger, Martin Strahm, Peter Blaser, Benedict Lehmann, Ulrich Schurch, and Hans Fluckiger. He was later placed on a ship for Amsterdam. He escaped from the ship at Mannheim, Germany.

5. The Schneider family slowly migrated into Germany in the late 1600's and early 1700's. Johan Adam Schneider born in 1696 in Hohenburg, Germany immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1737. He was a passenger on the ship “Samuel” which docked in Pennsylvania on August 30, 1737. He was 41 years old.

6. In 1731, a Hans Schneider was a minister of an Anabaptists congregation in Friedelsheim, Germany.

7. A Jacob Schneider settled in Brecknock Township in 1738. Gradually family members migrated from Germany to Pennsylvania.
