Noted events in her life were:
• Family Event, 1710. Hans and I were taking a walk when we saw a man who was hungry. Later, the authorities came to our home and apprehended Hans for being back in Bern when he had been exiled from the area for being an Anabaptist. The man that earlier begged us for food was with them and identified Hans.
Hans Runckel (the ambassador from the Netherlands) was irritated with Hans for returning and complicating the task of rescuing Anabaptist from the cruelty imposed on them by the Swiss government. Hans Runckel was able to get the authorities to release Hans to him with the assurance that Hans would be taken to Holland. Hans was placed on a ship with other Anabaptists prisoners who were being expelled from Switzerland. The passengers on the four ships were fellow Mennonite and Amish believers who were also forced to flee the country.
Our family finally settled in Coregemont, Jura, Switzerland.
Note:Author's interpretation of how things may have unfolded. The story about their walk, the begger and arrest is well documented. What we don't know for sure is if Barbara went on the flotilla or waited for Hans to return for her. We know that they were reunited again in that records show they were both in Coregemont, Jura, Switzerland in 1724. Corgemont, Jura was on what was a border between German lands and French land.
Barbara married Hans Burki, son of Niclaus Burki and Anna Kuehni, before 1672 in Langnau, Switzerland 16.,592 (Hans Burki was born on 1 Jun 1651 in Langnau Im Emmental, Canton Of Berne, Switzerland and died after 1727 in Corgemont, Jura, Principality Of Basel, Switzerland 593.)
