bullet  Noted events in her life were:

• Family Origin. The first 4 children of Betsey and Samuel died young. Samuel Stone, Jr. was described as very promising and was sent to Harvard, but did not graduate. He was associated with Rev. Gershom Buckley of Wethersfield. "He fell into intemperate habits and was excommunicated by the church. One dark October night in 1683, he left the tavern and next day was found drowned in the Little River." Birth: Sedgwick Family Papers Page: Appendix, Stone

• Church Records. 569 On Boston 1st Church Records, p. 25, date of July 1641. "Letters of commendation were granted to John Winthrop the younger, going to England, the like for our bro. Mr William Hibbins also going to England. "Mrs Elizabeth Stone, lately called Mrs Eliza Allen, but now the wife of Mr Samuel Stone the teacher of the church of Hartford, in Conn., was granted letters of recommendation thither." Turning back to 24 March, 1638-9, I find the admissions were Mrs Elizabeth Allen, Mrs Penelope Pelham and Elizabeth Story. Whether Elizabeth Allen were maiden or widow is not known to me, but my opinion is that not being called wife of any or widow, she was a young woman, for she lived to 1681. [Ju dge Savage.]

• will, 16 Jun 1681.

• Will probated, 2 Mar 1682. Elizabeth drew up her will on 16 June 1681/2 which was proven on 2 March 1681/2 and signed as Elizabeth Gardner. She appointed her daughter Elizabeth Rogers and grandson Samuel Sedgwick joint executors. In August 1663, the Widow of Samuel Stone and his son received a land grant for his service during the Pequot war. "In exchange for a farm which had been granted to Mr. Stone for his good service to the country in the Pequot War and afterwards." They were given five hundred acres of upland, and fifty acres or so of meadowland.
