Manus Janse Douw
Noted events in his life were: • Family Origin. By family tradition a Mennonite. The family was from Leeuwarden, capital of Friesland, but Mennonites were restricted in freedom of religious worship in the Netherlands, so Jan Douw took his family to Stapelholm, nr. Frederickstad, Schleswig-Holstein, whence they came to New Netherland. Jan was a burgher by trade. Manus married Jaquemijngen Cornelis in Aug 1620 in Scherpenisse, Tholen, Zeeland, Netherlands. (Jaquemijngen Cornelis was born in Poortvleit, Zeeland, Netherlands.) Manus next married Geertje Jans. |
