Noted events in his life were:
• Immigration, Bef 1643. I immigrated to New Amsterdam before 1643 on the ship “Prince Mautritz” in the service of the West India Company as a boatswain.
• Moved, 1654. We moved our family to Beverwyck, New York in 1654 followed by a move to Schenectady, New York in 1662. I eventually took up farming and so did my sons.
• Neighbor, 1669. 480 Our neighbor, Benjamin Roberts owned a bouwery called Maalwyck which was just west of the village of Scotia . He also owned Poversens which was opposite to Maalwyck on the south side of the river.
• Neighbor, 1669. Our other neighbor was Jan Baptist Van Eps.
• Indian Attack, 8 Feb 1690. On February 8, 1690, the French and their Indian allies attacked the fort in Schenectady. Our five sons were taken prisoner and marched up to Canada. It took two weeks to get there through the cold and snow. Rebecca and I escaped the horror because we were in Albany at the time of the attack attending a baptism.

Symon married Rebecca Du Trieux, daughter of Phelippe Antoine Du Trieux and Susanna Du Chesne, in 1645 in Schenectady, Albany, New York. (Rebecca Du Trieux was born in 1628 in New Amsterdam, New York and died after 1690 in Schnectady, New York.)

Rebecca du Trieux (Philippe); born circa 1636; (she may have been born 1643 ); married Symon Symonse De Groot, son of Symon de Groot.
Symon Symonse De Groot was born circa 1620 at Netherlands. He immigrated before 1643 to New Amsterdam; on the Prince Mauritz. He moved to Schenectady, NY, in 1662. In 1690 his sons were kidnapped in the Indian / French attack.
Simon Symonse Groot came early to New Netherland in the service of the West India Company as boatswain of the ship Prince Mauritz. In 1645 he was living in New Amsterdam (NY city) he then came to Beverwyck (Albany) in 1654. In 1662 he moved his family to Schenectady. Where the house he lived in was to remain in the family for over 100 years. On Feb. 8, 1690 the French and Indians atacked the Fort. Symon's 5 sons were taken prisoner and marched up to Canada. It took two weeks to get there through the cold and snow. Symon Sr. and his wife escaped all the horror because they were in Albany at a Baptism. Symon was a farmer by trade, and so were most of his sons. Phillip's son opened the 2nd grist mill in the area.
