Noted events in his life were: • Moved, 1827. In about 1827, I moved my family to Ohio after suffering through three extremely cold seasons in Canada where my stock perished and my crops failed to mature. We first sailed to Peelee Island in Lake Erie where we settled for a time with other white families and many Indians. The land was heavily timbered and we had to endure many hardships and deprivation in order to survive. • Moved, 1852. In 1852, we moved to North Bass Island. John married Rachel Stewart in 1813 in Gosfield Township, Essex County, Ontario, Canada. (Rachel Stewart was born in 1796 in Gosfield Township, Essex County, Ontario, Canada and died on 7 Sep 1854 in North Bass Island, Ottawa County, Ohio.) John next married Asuba D. Bartlett after 1854 in North Bass Island, Ottawa County, Ohio. |
