Noted events in his life were: • Immigration, 1663. I immigrated to New Amsterdam with my parents in 1663. • Owned. I owned a share of what was known as the De Meyer lands, which I bought jointly with my brother Cornelis. I added to his land until I had an ample estate that became known as Harlem. • elected, 1677. I was elected as an overseer in 1677 and repeatedly thereafter. • Surname History. We changed our surname to Louwe and our children further changed it to Low. Laurens married Maritje Roosa, daughter of Captain Aldert Heymans Roosa and Wyntje Ariens Allard Dejongh, about 1672. (Maritje Roosa was born in 1652 in Herwijnen, Gelderland, Netherlands.) Marriage Notes: Laurens was born in 1651 at Beest, Glederland, Holland. He immigrated in 1663 with his parents Jan Bastiaensen Van Kortryk. He married Mary daughter of Albert heymans Roosa. Laurens Jansen's share of the De Meyer lands, bought jointly with his brother Cornelis laid the foundation of the ample estate he acquired at Harlem, but which, with his grandson, passed out of the name. He was elected an overseer in 1677 and repeatedly afterward. His name was usually written in church records as Louwerens Jansen. His children were called Louwe and later shortened to Low. |
