Dr. Nicholas Claes Dewitt
(1589-1663) |
Dr. Nicholas Claes Dewitt
Noted events in his life were: • Traveled, 1609. I traveled with Hendrick Hudson to America on the ship “Half Moon” as part of his staff. Once we arrived in America, we traveled up the “River of the Mountains” to try to find a passage to the Indies. America was so beautiful and I could see that it was a land where a man could prosper. Later, I often told my children stories of my adventures with Hudson birthing their interest in immigrating to the colonies. • Education, 1620. Upon returning from my adventures over seas, I went into the study of medicine. • Immigration, 1662. Taatje and I immigrated to the American Colonies. Nicholas married Taatje Cornelisz Van Leuven, daughter of Cornelis Pieterzen Van Leuven and Unknown, about 1620 in Groatholdt, East Friesland. (Taatje Cornelisz Van Leuven was born in 1596 in Groatholdt, East Friesland and died on 17 May 1682 in Kingston, Ulster County, New York.) |
